Tomorrow night the committee will meet to finish the rewriting of the bylaws. After 15 plus meetings the committee will be ready to submit the new bylaws to the city. The CCI is setting up a steering committee for future agendas, voter forums, The Taste of Beaverton and Land Issues just to name a few. CCI would also like to start looking at Greenway issues. Beaverton Resource Center: Jill Showalter, Executive Director of the Beaverton P.A.L. (Police Activities League) joined us to talk about the P.A.L. Club and the Center is which we were meeting. P.A.L. started approximately four years ago as Cops and Kids. This was to be an after school program for children from 8 years of age and up. The database has grown to about 700 children coming and going over the last 4 years. The Center averages about 150 children a day, with a 50/50 split of girls and boys. Some statistics shared are 95% of the children come from the Beaverton/Aloha area, with about 30% Spanish speaking, with Asian and Korean outreach growing. About 65% of the Children attending are at poverty level. During the school year the children are mostly from a 1 mile radius, with mileage spreading during the summer. Each child attending the facility must be a member.(membership forms can be obtained at the reception desk of the Center.) Jill also touched on some of the sponsors and board members of the P.A.L. and Resource Center include NIKE, IBM, The Optimist Club just to name a few. Jill then took the NAC on a tour of the center.

Renaming Fir Grove Park: Bill Verhoef went to THPRD (Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District) to review the minutes. The minutes were not on tape, the typed minutes were reviewed. The minutes of the February 13, 1975 meeting did discuss buffers, fencing and location of the park play equipment. It was also discussed that the necessary paper work for a CUP and the correspondence from the City of Beaverton be reviewed. The minutes from February 3, 1976, spoke on the requirements for naming the parks for THPRD. The property was called McCormack property, and Barbara Nelson suggested it be named Fir Grove. In 1976 the THPRD, Pat Taylor said there would be a path for McCormack Park and Mr. Moore said that the name would be Fir Grove. Bill Verhoef suggested that maybe the THPRD make a history plague for each park. This would maybe state the first homesteader, who the property was purchased from and some history of the area in which the Park exist. On January 23, 2002 there is a THPRD hearing regarding the renaming of Fir Grove Park. Bob Tenner suggested that a written report/response on this subject be prepared in advance. Mike Dillon will work with Bill on the response and attend the hearing for the NAC.

Forest Park Clean Up Day: Mike Dillon reported on the spreading of the gravel and bark chips. Mike thanked Shawn Blumberg for the recruitment of 12 of the volunteers. There will be some additional work done to the rest of the Parks trails by Community Service Workers.

Farmington Rd Widening: Kat Iverson reported on the widening of Farmington Rd from Murray to Hawkins for bike path use. The City is looking at widening to the South at Hawkins and to the North at Murray. This will straighten Farmington Rd, making it accessible to bikes and a middle turn lane. There are some talks about planter strips also.

Leadership Beaverton: Keith Parker was involved with Leadership Beaverton Last year. This is a program ran by the City of Beaverton, that various people dedicated to 1 day a month for 9 months to be mentored in Leadership training. Keith put together a Leadership day this month called "Government Day" which was a great success and our own Mike Dillon was in attendance. Keith also announced his filing and running for State Representative for District #28. District #28 included TV Highway to Lombard to 209. Keith’s concerns are Education, Economy and Transportation.

Meeting adjourned at 9:08pm
