Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by Mike Dillon

Minutes: Minutes from the April meeting were approved as written.

Treasurer: Evan Lloyd reported the bank balance at $1,987.35. All receipts are in and we are awaiting monies from City of Beaverton for the Matching Grant on Forest Park.

Police Report: Officer Ryan Mills discussed the stats for the neighborhoods is still running about 1 month behind please check the update on the following website: http://www.ci.Beaverton.or.us. Officer Mills said March stats for our neighborhood were 7 thefts and 2 runaways, This seems small however, it has been slow around the city. Beaverton Police are still working on acquiring some unmarked police vehicles. It was asked if there is any aerial support for the summer coming, and its been said as of right now its been tabled.

TVF&R: Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, with Ken, Jeff and Doug joined us. They informed us that as of May 1st of this year there has been 31 new fire fighters placed in the district. Calls are pretty calm right now however, they are gearing up for their busy season, summer. Ken mentioned that they would ask that people would please be more careful when driving by a rescue or accident, as this is really were the majority of respondents are killed each year. Drive safe, pull over for vehicles and keep your eyes on the road not the scene. www.tvfr.com.

SORRENTO RD: Jabra Khasho, PE, with the City of Beaverton Traffic Division joined us to take us through the traffic calming process. Phase 1: Neighbors call with traffic problem. Phase II: Police department does a speed test to determine if speeds are consistently over 5 MPH. Then a petition must be circulated within the neighborhood. This is all submitted to the City of Beaverton Traffic Division. Phase III: Traffic calming committee works with the neighborhood requesting the needs for traffic calming through several meetings. Several options are then proposed by the Traffic Division. In this case the options were speed bumps, planters and curb extension along with speed cushions. Several options would not work as neighbors wanted to be able to still park on Sorrento Road, speed bumps would impair speedy access by emergency vehicles and rounding out intersections and planter boxes would be too much in traffic/drainage/and road work. In working with neighbors and the Fire department it has been officially proposed for 8 speed cushions down Sorrento that are split, 14 feet by 3 inches for easier emergency access. May 15th at South ridge High School there will be another meeting for neighbors to attend. There needs to be a 67% of neighbors within 250 feet of Sorrento Rd to respond in order to accept this proposed plan.
BCCI Formerly CCI: (Beaverton Committee for Citizens Involvement) Marv opened to say only 1 nomination came in out of 13 NAC's. He was disappointed as a NAC member, and a neighbor. Some dates to remember: May 15th the City of Beaverton along with the BCCI will hold town hall picnics to bring two or more NAC's together for issues. May 18th from 10 to 2pm the Police Dept, Optimist Club and Bike Safety committee will hold it annual Bike Safety at City Hall. May 25th the Highland NAC will hold the Cinnamon Roll Booth at Beaverton Farmers' Market. June 1st is the annual clean up day held at City Hall. Need lots of volunteers as we have been challenged by other NAC's to hold the top position for volunteers. June 17th, the Planning Commission will hold an Appeal hearing for the dismissal of the DeNovo at City Hall. June 21,22,23rd is Taste of Beaverton with the parade on the 22nd. Just a side note regarding the development on Murray where Haggan is going in, there will be a meeting May 23rd at the Beaverton Resource Center regarding DEQ findings on methane readings on this site.
FIR GROVE PARK: The signage proposed reading is as follows:
The History of Fir Grove Park
The Tualatin Tribe of the Kalapuyans inhabited this area for many centuries and were moved to the Grand Ronde Agency after the 1855 Dayton Treaty. In 1873 President Ulysses S. Grant signed a 320 acre land grant to the first settlers Rostun and Sarah Welch. In 1943 part of this property was purchased by Elmer E. and Caroline McCormack. In 1973 they sold this 4.73 acre parcel to the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District. According to Dave at the Park service it would cost approximately $500.00 for the copper sign and shipping. Marv is looking into having the rock its placed on donated. All present accepted this signage. Barbara will now take this before the THP&R Board and keep us informed.
WASHINGTON COUNTY: Diane Laughter, MPH, with Washington County Tobacco Prevention. Roy Dancer is the chair of the program. They are working to make it harder for Tobacco products to get into hands of children. Daine then presented a power point on the New Oregon Law on smokfree workplace. Employers must provide a smoke free workplace for all employees. There are a few exceptions, Bars, Hotel rooms and Restaurants with bars. There is a $50 per day or $1,000 per month violation fine. Food servers are up to 40% higher risk for lung cancer due to second hand smoke. 92% of Oregonians believe second hand smoke is harmful, and 79% of smokers want to quit. The tobacco quit line is 877-270-smoke. The complaint line is 1-866-621-6107.
STOP SIGNS: : It was brought up that the NAC make an application for stop signs to be placed at 22nd and 130th. There are currently stop signs on 22nd, however cars are moving pretty fast on 130th from above Barlow down to Allen. This would slow down cars and make it safer for children at the park. Mike will make a letter of application for this to proceed.

ANNUAL PICNIC: This year it will be held on August 3rd, from 4 to 8pm at Highland Park Middle School. We will be BBQing, having the Fire Department and Police K9 along with two trains. We will also have a classic car exposition by our own Highland neighbors that own classic cars. There will be more next month.
