Call to order 7PM by Craig Bass

 

Present:  Craig Bass; Tammy Bass; Evan Lloyd; Joan Lloyd; Marv Doty; Bob Tenner; Barbara Wilson; Dean Wilson; Shawn Blumberg; Juanita Coparanis; Gene Stauber; Don Jarman; Michael Dillon; Jerry Aalfs; Sue Crist-Aalfs; Bill Verhoef, Ben and Julie Simon.

 

Absent: Elva Doty; Dori Tenner

 

Minutes changed to reflect Jack Franklins’ Daughter to Daughter in law. Change Shawn’s spelling of his last name.

 

Marv motioned that the NAC file an application for award for Shawn Blumberg to be put in for the Vergie Ries Award.  Both Bob Tenner and Marv Doty have been past recipients.  The Beaverton CCI, would like this by April.  Both Bob and Marv will help Craig write up application for submission.  Evan second the motion, motioned carried.

 

Beaverton Police: Not present

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Evan reported that we have $3,811.88.  Evan presented to Mike Dillon a plaque for past chair of the Highland NAC.

 

TVR&R; Unable to attend

 

BCCI(Beaverton Citizens for Committee involvement) There will be no voter’s forum this year.  Annual City Yard clean up will be headed up by BCCI to be held June 7th Saturday.  BCCI is producing a citizen’s handbook for the neighbors; this will be given to the NAC’s regarding land issues.  Issues on the local front i.e.: schools and parks and recreation will be at a voter’s forum Washington County Public Affairs.

 

Pam McLean of Citizens for School Support wanted some time to talk to the NAC regarding the Upcoming LEVY for schools.  It was discussed to have both sides here in May.  Craig will see if we will be able to have both sides here for 10-minute talk.

 

Budget Committee:  Dean brought up that the general suggestion amount to be discussed.

Evan discussed the scholarship to give to Beaverton or South ridge High Schools for a senior to attend an accredited upper education school. This amount to be determined.

Marv passed around letters to be given to Highland middle school and Fir Grove elementary for school project donation with an amount to be discussed.  Marv also talked to Gene regarding the building of display case for our awards to be used at the Market and our picnic.  Craig discussed the redoing of the Highland NAC banner for City Hall.  Barbara brought up the donation to Beaverton Christian and Evergreen Presbyterian churches Food Bank.  Dean also brought up a possible donation to Beaverton Resource Center.  A motion was made by Dean that a $500.00 scholarship is to be given to a senior that lives within our neighborhood, Barbara seconded this and motioned passed.  Juanita made a motion that we donate to the church food bank.  Dean seconded. This was not passed. Dean made a motion that the Highland Nac donates $500.00 to the Oregon Food Bank.  Joan Seconded.  So passed.  The remaining items above are tabled until next meeting.

 

Picnic Committee:  Picnic Committee had met and discussed the Pros and Cons of an upcoming Picnic, Date was set, cost was talked about, place was decided, food was still and issue, and Don had an update that the Culinary Institute could serve but doesn’t cater.

While asking for a budget from the board, everything the committee had discussed was re-discussed and board asked that a new meeting be set up and this was tabled.  Tammy has resigned as Picnic chair and will send an email to the rest of the committee.

 

Saturday Market: Community Booth will be manned by various groups.  The Highland Nac will be managing this Booth and will be paid for 24 Saturdays at $15.00 each week.  Evan has scheduled the Saturdays for May thru October for cinnamon Roll sale.

 

Non-profit status:  Marv and Craig have checked into making the NAC Non profit and after researched we have declined.

 

Awards Committee: Marv, Joan, Craig, Bob, Dean.  Application will be made for the following awards:  Environmental improvement: Sorrento Round; Public Safety: Highland Forest Project, Community Enrichment: Neighborhood picnic; and Special Recognition the Fir Grove Park Plaque.

 

News Letter:  Joan has an idea on sending a newsletter out.  Joan has a neighbor that may be interested in helping put this together. Joan, Craig and Don will work on this.
