Minutes from the May meeting were approved as written.
Beaverton Police: Officer Macaully reported that district 4 which is SW Beaverton; 147 incidents from assaults to burglary. The Highland Neighborhood only accounts for 26 of these, which is thefts. In April there were 2 cars stolen and 2 homes broken into. Compared to the rest of the City the stats are low. Officer Macaully opened it up for discussion. If you find a bike that been abandoned or stolen call 503-629-0111 and a cadet will pick it up.
Treasurer’s Report: Evan reported that we have $3,015.10. Made $165 on the first farmer’s market booth. Evan felt this was due to the cold weather. This balance does include the deduction of the donation to the food bank. The $500 donation purchased up to 5000 pounds of food for the food bank.
Evan presented a plaque to Shawn Blumberg for his years of service as a student board member and all the volunteer work. We will miss you Shawn.
Scholarship: Evan also presented the First Annual $500 scholarship winner to Ashlan Cabanilla. Ashlan will be attending Portland State in the fall and majoring in Business.
TVR&R; Unable to attend
BCCI (Beaverton Citizens for Committee involvement) Marv pointed out that this last year the Highland NAC has captured four awards for The Sorrento Round, the annual Picnic, the Hyland Forest Park and the Plaque of history on Fir Grove Park. The City wide clean up at the beginning of June was a great success. Bob reported that last year we had over 500 cars last year and this year about 360. $4900.00 was grossed by the Clean up.
Budget Committee: We have tabled the banner issue. Joan will check in with some of the elderly care homes for someone who would be interested in doing the banners for the NAC. Gene could also do some signs for outdoor use. Craig will try to get in touch with Jeff Menzel regarding banners. Marv would like to table the $250 donation to Fir Grove and Highland Middle School. We would like this to go to an education project. Marv will set some guidelines and and talk to the schools in the fall. The display cabinet is still in the design review process.
Joan gave an update that the custodians at the schools are required to keep up with the garbage clean up.
Newsletter: Joan gave a sample of the wording of the newsletter. This will be a hand out for neighbors. The Neighborhood office will work with Joan to add some clip art. Don Jarmer will donate his time to work with Joan to do this them. The City is unavailable to help until after July 1st.
Tonight we have some refreshments donated by Beaverton Bakery and Trader Joes. Marv has had them donate these items for us and we send a great big thank you.
Fir Grove Park dedication. Marv said we need to get “The Valley Times”, the Tualatin Valley Park and Recreation district along with the families involved. Marv made a motion to have the dedication in the park to be in September. Dean 2nd the motion. Board so voted. A Motioned was made by Tammy to have the dedication on September 27th at 2pm. Dori Tenner 2nd the motion. Voted and approved.
Sorrento Round: Joan is asking for volunteers to help maintain and water the Round. Steve has put the schedule for summer watering on the website. Please sign up. Water and hose on sight.
Suggestions were made that we try some new ways to get others involved. One board member per committee, the board member then gets outside neighbors on the subcommittee.
