Beaverton police: Officer John Macaulay gave an update of crime stats for our neighborhood.   His report pulled the district not just our NAC.  So far we are on track with last year.  One of the things he’s seen is that people go out and start their car to warm it up and then go back inside.  When they return to their car, it has been stolen.

Treasury report:  All checks have been deposited and we have a balance of $3,911.88.

BCCI Update:  Award nominations will be next month for the Vergie Ries and project awards.  The city wide clean up is scheduled for June 7th and plans are in the works to make it a success.  This is a great way for our NAC to earn money.  There is a 13 person task force set up to execute fast track regulations for land use in an effort to stimulate the economy in Oregon. BCCI to meet with Charlie Ringo on 3/25 to discuss this task force.

Meeting Minutes – The February meeting minutes are approved after adding the date of the last meeting (2/13/03).

Representative Jeff Barker – State representative for our district gave an update on issues that they are working on.  He reported on the effect of Measure 28 not passing and the cuts that were made as a result.  He also reported that he is on the PERS committee and that they are making progress.  If you have questions, you can e-mail representative Barker at barker.rep@state.org.us.

Oregon Community Protection Coalition – Charlotte Lehar who is also the mayor of Wilsonville spoke about HB2137, a replacement initiative for Measure 7.  Charlotte spoke of the impact Measure 7 would have had if it had been upheld in the courts.  She said the costs for government would be great if this new initiative passes.  She reported that Land Use Planning and Economic Development need to work together.  She also indicated that a “high quality of life and high quality schools” are important to big companies looking at our area.

Saturday Market Report – Evan Lloyd offered  and accepted an opportunity to run the cinnamon roll booth this year.  Saturday Market starts May 10th and runs to the end of October.  There are 13 different community groups involved.  Our NAC will receive $15 per weekend for managing the booth.  Evan is scheduling the participants while Marv will be choosing the vendor for the rolls.  Highland NAC will have the first and last weekend so that we can inspect all the gear and equipment.  We should generate around $1000 for our NAC.

Sorrento Round – Craig mentioned that he would like to add a plaque to the round that states that the NAC maintains the round.

Development at Barlow and Hall – A developer wants to develop a vacant lot at the end of Barlow.  Craig will check the details.  The NAC chair must be notified by developer and a meeting called to provide the details.

Open Discussions – We had a discussion with regards to setting our NAC up as a non-profit.   Attorney fees could be $1600-$2800 for the set-up.  Bob Tenner recommended that we contact the city neighborhood office for help.  If set up as a non-profit, we would need to file tax returns.  Marv recommended that we keep everything simple.  Craig will do some further research with the city.

Fund Budget Committee – A committee that suggests ideas for budgeting and maintaining the NAC Bank Balance.  We have a good treasury and we want to put the money back into the neighborhood.  Dean Wilson will be chair for the committee. Marv, Evan, Bob and Craig, and Barbara will also be on the committee.

Shawn noted that students who need required community service hours are available if we have any projects.  Craig suggested that volunteer opportunities be posted on our website.

Picnic – Tammy Bass was appointed as chair for the picnic. Don, Craig, Marv, Bob, Dori, Evan, Dean and Barbara are on the committee.

The snipers(Back East) shot Jack Franklin’s daughter, Linda Franklin. Marv made a motion to give $50 to the Linda Franklin Memorial fund. This is a trust set up for future victims.  Our name will be listed as contributors.  Jaunita made a motion to amend the contribution to $100.  The motion was approved.

Special Thanks to Denise Standley for taking minutes this month in Tammy’s Absent.

Meeting adjourned at 9:00.
