Call to order by Craig Bass at 7:08 PM

 

Present:  Jeff Menzel; Bill Young; Craig Bass; Bill Verhoef, Dean Wilson, Tammy Bass, Bill Chown; Juanita Coparanis; Marv Doty; Joan Loyd; Gene Stauber and  Officer Burke.  

 

Minutes:  Minutes were approved by adding the names of all the board members. Approved as corrected.

 

Beaverton Fire: Unable to attend

 

 Beaverton Police: Officer Burke reported on the stats for Highland.  There have been a couple of thefts from cars.  The sex offense report is the one that the person has been arrested. Be aware of the solicitors going around selling magazines.  There will be a follow up regarding this ring.  These people must show a permit to be legal to sell.  Be careful these people are under investigation.  The police department is doing joint watch for DUI’s.  Officer Burke is now assigned to our NAC, unless ill or promoted out. 

 

 Treasurer Report:  $2,975.99 is the amount to date per Dean Wilson.

 

Awards were given as follows:  Marv Doty for being our BCCI 2002-2004 Rep, Tammy Bass as secretary, all others will be recognized at next meeting.  The meeting has been passed to Jeff Menzel. Joan Lloyd and Evan Lloyd were also given awards for Vice Chair and Farmers market.

 

BCCI:  Marv reported that the November meeting was the year-end meeting and was joined by Craig.  Marv, Bob, Catherine have moved to other duties reflecting a change in leadership.  Marv will continue to work with BCCI in the City Yard Clean Up.  Mayor Drake gave the State of the City address with the BCCI.  Major issues regarding measure 37 and annexation of land parcels were addressed.  The Mt Williams property purchase was also talked about regarding the under ground water plant and the 217 options.  In the next 6 months there will be several meetings on the 217 options facing us.  Jack Franklin spoke regarding the Clean Water Association.

 

Election for the NAC- the Board members listed as follows: Besides the Officers mentioned last month the board members for this next year are:  Craig Bass; Marv Doty, Bob Tenner, Tammy Bass, Bill Young, Dori Tenner, Gene Stauber, Bill Verhoef, Elva Doty, Dustin Blumberg, Juanita Coparanis, and Kelly White.

 

Farmers Market- There was an issue with the Beaverton Bakery regarding some past invoices.  However with further researched Marv has tracked down all the receipts from other organizations showing all has been paid in full.  Marv mentioned that after speaking with many members of the Market some changes needed to be made.  Marv would like to hold a meeting with the 24 plus organizations that have used this booth to make changes.

 

Scholarship Fund-  Evan Lloyd has said he will continue to chair this fund.

 

Fir Grove-Marv met with Principal Hess and reported that the $250 went to help on an organic garden project and to help two students attend future science education and computer program.  They very much appreciated the funds.

 

Highland Middle School- Principal Julie had the $250 go to some under-privilege children attend a computer school and working on a greenhouse garden as well.

 

High School Scholarship program- It was discussed that we would like to have each school from the elementary schools talk to us on a presentation and possibly reduce the high school scholarship and increase the elementary funding.  A motion was made by Dean to allow $300 each to Fir Grove and Highland Schools second by Jeff. Discussion open.  Voted and carried unanimously.

 

Signs:  It was brought up that the signs for the meetings are very heavy and large.  Jeff brought up the matching funds available by the City.  Need to have ideas for the matching funds by next meeting.  Some suggestions were the upgrade on the Sorrento round planting and planters, signs, and lighting of the Fir grove park.   

 

City of Beaverton- the NAC code that was written in 1978 is being updated and changed.   Jeff has asked that Bill Young review this and all other members and check to see if any changes conflict with existing By-laws.  We need to have all comments in by February 1, 2005.  Bill will report next month regarding this review and change.  The issue came up that we needed to know if the City Attorney had an answer regarding the use of non-profit status, tax id number and the liability insurance.

 

Year Calendar- Bill brought up that we need to set up master calendar of dates, reports etc.  Bill Chown will help Bill Young on setting this up.

 

Joan reported that the Parks and Rec will be installing new street type signs within the Highland Park for direction.  The Boy Scouts have put a fence in.  There have been people pulling ivy within the park as well.   January 21st 9AM Ivy pull in the Park. HighlandNAC@comcast.net is a new address for Jeff Menzel for the NAC.

 

Barbra Wilson has been nominated for the coming year as Secretary/Recorder. Second the motion voted and passed unanimously.  Barbra will start at the January meeting.
