Call to order 7:06 PM by Craig Bass
Present: Craig Bass; Marv Doty; Evan Lloyd; Dean Wilson; Bob Moor; Ross Dalrymple; Jeff Menzel; Bill Verhoef; Dori Tenner; Bob Tenner; Juanita Coparanis; Vernon Field; Scott Steiner; Rob Petrace; Officier Burke; Joan Lloyd and Tammy Bass.
Minutes: Gene Stauber and Doug Steickler were changed and reflected the corrected change. Farmers’ Market is the 23rd. Minutes approved as corrected.
Beaverton Fire: Scott with Tualatin Valley Fire of the Farmington Rd station mentioned the levy for the Fire District. It will maintain your current tax rate. 33 positions were funded off the levy and they would like a renewal. This is Measure 34-94. He also mentioned that with winter here to have your fireplaces checked and cleaned before using them. They still come and inspect fire/smoke alarms.
Beaverton Police: Officer Burke passed around the geographical outline of the NAC. He also passed out a map showing where the crimes were committed in the area. Some vandalism, kids mischievousness, and theft from cars. Looking for 3 things that are a priority from the NAC. The incident came up regarding Beaverton High School, Officer Pettit is the officer assigned to Beaverton School; you can reach her at www.Jpettit@ci.beaverton.or.us . It was also mentioned that you need to watch your garage doors being opened, or warming your cars in the morning people have cars stolen. Do not leave anything lying in your car valuable or at least keep things out of sight.
Treasurer Report: Dean Reported that we have $2,865.74 in the bank, October 23 is the last time we have the Farmer’s Market.
Voters Forum: Channel 28 is airing the voters’ forum and will be on 3 times this week with others to come. Bob Tenner spoke about the voter’s forum. They went just over their 2-hour time frame. They were able to get all the people to speak and had a good discussion on measure 37 afterwards. Eric was the moderator and did a great job.
BCCI (Beaverton Committee for Citizens Involvement). Marv reported that BCCI is nominating new board members for next year. They have finished the Land Use Manual and are working on getting this into the hands of the NAC’s and other Citizens. Marv will be on BCCI through November.
Election for the NAC- Marv discussed the nominations from the committee. Marv said Jeff Mentzel as Chair, Bill Chown as Vice Chair, Dean Wilson as Treasurer, and are looking for a BCCI representative and a Recorder. Craig was nominated as the BCCI rep and will be mentored by Marv Doty. Bill Young will be our parliamentary councilor. Nominations will be open and voting will occur next month according to our by-laws.
Neighborhood Office: Ellen Levno from the City of Beaverton neighborhood office passed out information on getting involved in building your community. The NAC office coordinates the boards and commissions, traffic, appeals board, BCCI and many others. They also manage the community center. This is where a NAC or non-profit association that has community involvement can meet at these places. There are over 100 meetings they’re a month. They dedicated a .5 time person to managing this center. They also manage and started the learning series that is a class that takes place over 8 weeks. There has been a walking tour in downtown Beaverton on beautification; in September there were 51 people who attended. The neighborhood office was established in 1987 and staffs 2.5 people. They help the 13 NAC’s with meetings and administrative duties. Anyone who resides within the NAC boundaries whether its personal residence or business they are members. This is to be a public forum. NAC’s also host developers, Police, Fire Departments, Land Use Issues and anything that comes up that requires or need attention within our Neighborhood. The NAC office does bulk mailing for the NAC’s, sends out agendas and minutes. They also maintain the City of Beaverton’s web site. They transmit to anyone via email unless called and they will still send out information through the mail. They also hold quarterly meetings for the board of Directors with all the NAC’s to update and discuss information. They assist is getting NAC chairs information for agenda speakers, phone numbers and help the NAC’s funnel the information to the rest of the community. The Mayor, media, and council people read the NAC minutes along with many others to help stay updated with the whole of Beaverton. Ellen said keep up the good work being involved with the community. There will be a resource manual available soon.
Sorrento Round Budget- Joan is looking for a budget for the round island at Sorrento. She is asking for about 150.00 for annuals. Jeff made a motion that we set a $250 budget for this year. Motioned 2nd by Marv and voted. All carried and approved. Joan is looking for anyone who wants to help with planting, donating and maintaining the round.
Newsletter: Joan did a great letter with Kelly White and Ellen finished it and mailed it out to our mailing list. It can be looked at also on the website. Ellen said that the NAC office is still working on cleaning up the mailing list and email list. If anyone wants information email or by regular mail please notify the NAC office at City Hall.
Silver Dollar Pizza: There is a meeting on Tuesday October 19th at the Elsie Stuhr Center. Highland Neighborhood will be helping the Vose Neighborhood take a stand in regards to Walgreen’s trying to be built at the Silver Dollar Pizza location.
