POLICE REPORT – Officer Steve Schaer – Beaverton Police Dept. gave a brief report. He reported of arrests made at 5800 SW Lombard, Beaverton, where a gun stash was found.  He spoke briefly on meth problems in the Metro area.  Meth is frequently involved in identity theft.

 

REPORT FROM MAYOR ROB DRAKE

Mayor Drake gave an overview of the “State of the City” including a discussion of Measure 37,

explanation of annexation challenges and Wal-Mart.  Crimes are down 8.8%.  Beaverton is a finalist in the All American City contest.

REPORT FROM CRAIG BASS – BCCI:   Beaverton Schools enrollment will increase 700-800 students this year.   SAT scores are excellent.   Craig indicated that most of the news from BCCI had been covered in the Mayor’s report so he would not repeat that information.

 

REPORT ON COMMUNITY BOOTH – Marv Doty indicated regulations have been rewritten.  A banner, “Beaverton Community Booth”  has been ordered.  The rent for each group has not been increased.  We have more Saturdays available for sign-in.   Dean Wilson and Marv will review the new price list provided by Beaverton Bakery.  The first Saturday in the booth will be May 7. Organizations can sign up for only one time only; however, Highland NAC will have the first Saturday and the last Saturday of the season.  There will be 37 Saturdays @ $15 from each organization.

It was moved by Dean Wilson and seconded by Evan Lloyd that Elva Doty will have a Saturday on behalf of Oregon Food Bank.   All NACSs are invited to participate to help Elva.   All proceeds will go to the Oregon Food Bank.  The motion passed unanimously.

BEAVERTON SPRING 2005 CLEAN-UP will be held on June 4.  A sign-up sheet was distributed to the group for volunteers indicating specific times to work. 

 

MATCHING FUNDS FROM THE CITY FOR THE HART CIRCLE GARDEN: Grant paperwork was submitted to the city to request $250 matching funds for the Hart Circle Garden. The city replied that they will require an irrigation system be provided by a city vendor at a cost of $300; labor is free. Bill Chown suggested that he could investigate irrigation options that may be less than $300. Deadline for implementing all work and applying for reimbursement of grant funds is June 15.

A motion was made by Bill Chown and seconded by Bill Young to proceed with the irrigation system proposed by the city  at the Hart Circle Garden.  Vote was unanimous.

MT. WILLIAMS:  Marv Doty reported that the local share for the purchase of Mt. Williams had met their goal in a decision by Trust for Public Lands.   Although the goal was $100,000, and the total amount of money received to date was only $75,000, this was acceptable to Trust for Public Lands.
