VOTING

Minutes from Highland NAC meeting 04/14/05 were approved as written.

===============================================================

TREASURER'S REPORT:

Balance of funds          $1,627.34

===============================================================

GUEST SPEAKER - REPRESENTATIVE JEFF BARKER - gave an overview of the current legislative session.  Topics included amount of money to be budgeted from the General Fund for Oregon schools,  traffic speed regulations clarified for school zones,  annexation issues regarding the City of Beaverton, legislation requiring child molesters to live more than 3 miles from a victim's home, drunk driving (three convictions you lose your license).  Clean-up the Willamette River legislation has not been allowed out of the House Committee.  Meth addiction in the state is a very serious problem

===============================================================

SPEAKER - GAIL PARKER - CEDAR MILL RESIDENT   Since it is Highland NAC policy to invite pro and con speakers on controversial issues, and since we did not have a speaker in favor of Wal-Mart, Jeff Menzel asked if any members of the NAC Board objected to hearing Gail Parker speak against the Wal-Mart proposal.  No one objected..

Gail said her neighborhood would appeal to the Beaverton City Council to deny the request of Wal-Mart to build in the Cedar Mill area on the basis of increased traffic.

===============================================================

BCCI REPORT - CRAIG BASS - spoke regarding City of Beaverton Clean-up Day.

The NAC can earn $44/shift.  Highland NAC will run the Miller Sanitation site.  No one under 16 years can work.  Sign-up sheets for volunteers were distributed.  The more man hours provided, the more profitable for the NAC.  We can give our money to the schools.

===============================================================

SERVICE TO BEAVERTON AWARDS - Jeff Menzel distributed 2005 nomination forms.

===============================================================

COMMUNITY BOOTH - FARMER'S MARKET - Evan Lloyd gave a report.    The event was very successful.  It was a sell-out.  We netted $358.40; expenses $13.99.

===============================================================

HART CIRCLE GARDEN:  Jeff Menzel reported that Bill Chown investigated an irrigation system at approximately $70, but the City of Beaverton declined the idea as it didn't meet their standards.  We will proceed with the required higher priced irrigation system.  Jeff indicated we needed volunteers to work in the garden Saturday, May 21

9 am - 11 am.  Sign-up sheets were distributed.

===============================================================

NEW BUSINESS - Craig reported on a vacant house in the cul de sac at 20th Court.

Owners do not wish to sell.  If it becomes a fire hazard (dry grass), city will require

that the grass be mowed.

===============================================================

ST. STEPHENS ACADEMY will use space in the Church of Nazarene, 22nd and Hall, for a private Christian school.  No new buildings will be required.

===============================================================

BEAVERTON SUMMIT - April 23, 9 am - 1 pm at City Hall.  Bill Young and Jeff Menzel attended.  Mini-courses on various city matters were offered.

===============================================================

 SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE - $750 Scholarship; two applicants.  A 3rd applicant was not in the Highland neighborhood.  Dean Wilson, Jeff Menzel and  Evan Lloyd serve on the Scholarship Committee.

===============================================================

MEETING ADJOURNED AT 9 PM.
